Côte de Nuits

There formerly was a small oratory chapel a stone's throw from Clos de Bèze. It was built in 1155 and placed under the invocation of Notre–Dame, but it fell into disuse in the 14th century. This weighed heavily on the winegrowers so the chapel was rebuilt and consecrated again on July 4, 1457. The pious assembly gathered around Bishop Philibert de Beaujeu brought the fruits of his labor to paradise.

Aromatic Intensity

In 228 L barrels for ten months (30% new barrels) then five months of flavor maturation in stainless steel vats.

Karine Moréteaux

Chanzy's expert advice

Serving temperature: 16°C
Powerful, virile, complex and intense, the Grands Crus of Gevrey-Chambertin require noble dishes that are themselves complex, so that the confrontation remains balanced.

Food and Wine pairing

Game animals of course will be welcome with this wine, grilled or, better yet, in wine sauce. The power of its tannins in this wine permit this shock of textures, and its aromatic complexity and especially its opulence make the difference. Lamb in sauce, coq au vin of course, glazed poultry and prime rib will also find great interest in Chapelle-Chambertin.  Washed rind cheeses are well framed by its power and aromatic persistence.
