Aloxe-Corton, the link between Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits

Our tour of the Côte de Beaune continues at Aloxe-Corton. This region is world-famous as the true link between the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune. The region's perfect geographical location has produced some of the most interesting wines in the world.

Aloxe-Corton is divided into three main villages: Aloxe-Corton, Ladoix-Serrigny and Pernand-Vergelesses.

The deep, reddish-brown, chalky soils can sometimes be felt in the glass with their mineral notes. This region of Burgundy produces almost exclusively red Corton-Charlemagne and Charlemagne wines; whites are rare but very interesting

Like other Burgundy wines, these are very dark, with deep ruby, crimson velvet or garnet hues.

On the nose, the wines are at first a little sweeter, with very spring-like scents of garden flowers such as peony and jasmine. Fruity aromas of red fruits such as Morello cherry, blackcurrant and blackberry are also present, but only when the wine is young. As the wine ages, aromas intensify with notes of pistachio, prune, leather and truffle.

On the palate, Corton wines are full-bodied, generous, racy and quite robust. They're still quite masculine, but the work done on elegance ensures perfect balance. They also have a well-structured body with very pleasant tannins that give an impression of velvet on the palate.

Sometimes soft and fruity, these wines need a little time to open up. Don't hesitate to wait between three and five years to enjoy the full structure of this wine.

When it comes to food pairing, Cortonwines are the perfect match for meats in sauce or roast poultry. Soft, washed-rind cheeses are a perfect match. But all this at a serving temperature of between 15 and 16 degrees.
