Gevrey Chambertin, a world-famous wine

Focus on an exceptional wine: Gevrey Chambertin

It's no secret that Burgundy is one of France's most emblematic wine-producing regions. There are three main côtes in this region, known the world over and to the greatest wine lovers: Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune and Côte Chalonnaise .

And today, we're going to take a look at one of Burgundy 's most northerly regions, the Côte de Nuits. It's packed with some of the finest Grand Crus in the world.

The climate is undoubtedly what makes these wines so rich and powerful. Burgundy is the perfect crossroads between hot and dry. The continental climate makes for a very special wine. The reds are full-bodied, structured and powerful, but also, if mastered by the winemaker, elegant.

This is particularly true of Grevrey Chambertin, the wine we're going to look at today. An exclusively red wine, it's obviously made from the Pinot Noir grape variety. Just a few kilometers from Dijon, they boast great appellations such as Charmes-Chambertin, Mazoyères-Chambertin and Mazis-Chambertin, which are known the world over.

Gevrey Chambertin is a wine that is immediately recognizable by the eye. And with good reason: when young, its color is very distinctive, a bright ruby that becomes darker with age.

In terms of aroma, this wine is recognizable among hundreds. With fruity aromas of strawberry, blackberry, violet and rose. It's very pleasant to drink young, but Gevrey Chambertin is above all a wine for laying down, and can be very good for building up a first cellar and learning about great vintages

Gevrey Chambertin goes perfectly with a fine piece of meat such as prime rib or braised lamb, although some dare to serve it with fish. It should be served between 15 and 16 degrees.
