Tips for choosing the right glass for your wine

You're at home, ready to entertain. After spending long minutes choosing which wine to serve with your meal, you're faced with another dilemma. Which glass to serve it in?

This second question is one that many consumers forget. And yet, it's not only essential, it's also necessary, because the wrong choice may not do your wine justice. Its shape, opening and height all have a significant impact on the taste of your wine.

Choosing the right glass for a wine tasting is nothing new. It was taster Jules Chauvet who first revealed the importance of the container in 1950. He brought to light the notion of diameter, not only that of theglass, but also that of the opening.

Which glass for which wine?

The glass allows the wine to reveal its full potential, depending on its typicity. Aromas are released to a greater or lesser extent depending on the oxygenation in the glass. A large, wide glass will promote oxygenation and, consequently, the release of aromas.

- A wine containing heavy aromas will need to be well oxygenated. It is therefore preferable to serve it in a glass with a larger diameter than the opening

- For light aromas that need less oxygenation, on the other hand, thin glasses are preferable. The difference between the diameter of the opening and that of the glass may be smaller. In this case, tulip-shaped glasses are preferable. A light wine served in a large glass may quickly lose its taste if oxygenated too quickly.

In reality, every wine could have its own glass, so the choice can become a real headache. The essential tip is to remember the famous notion of aroma
