A few keys to a successful New Year's Eve
J-4 ! In four days' time, families all over the world will gather to celebrate Christmas. It's a celebration that's often eagerly awaited, as it's synonymous with gathering, gifts and, above all, food.
Christmas meals have become a veritable institution, and certain dishes are considered to be of prime importance. These include foie gras, smoked salmon, chestnuts and capon. Dishes that are almost exclusively eaten during the festive season.
But before you come to the table for the aperitif, a glass of champagne or crémant will do the trick! Indeed, now is the perfect time to offer a few bubbles of this festive beverage.
At the table, red and white wines can be presented according to the dishes on offer.
For smoked salmon, for example, a dry, lively wine with low acidity will do the trick to offset the fish's greasiness. Burgundy wines play well with a Chablis 1er cru, or a Meursault. These wines also go well with oysters. And don't forget champagne, which goes perfectly with oysters.
For seafood such as crab, lobster or crayfish, a Chablis is highly recommended.
For foie gras, a sweet white wine isn't always the best idea, as your taste buds may quickly become overloaded with all the flavors. For this reason, a tannic red wine can be suggested.
For the famous capon, go for a Nuits-St-Georges, which will perfectly enhance your poultry as well as your duck or pigeon!
For dessert, which is often an ice-cream log, opt once again for a good sparkling wine to tantalize your taste buds for the last time before Santa's long-awaited visit...
