Which wine for an autumn dinner?

Tips for a pleasant autumn

It's no secret that autumn has been here for a few weeks now. And autumn means warm evenings by the fireside and comfort food. These include, of course, the inevitable raclette, but also dishes based on mushrooms, squash, chestnuts and so on.

But of course, all of these dishes require their own particular wines. Today, we're going to guide you and reveal the wines that go best with those beloved autumn dishes.

Red wine will of course be de rigueur this season. White wine, however, will find its place with a good raclette.

For this emblematic, heart-warming dish, red wine isn't particularly recommended; instead, opt for a white wine. Raclette cheese goes perfectly with a dry white wine. A Burgundy white, like a Bourgogne aligoté, will do the trick. If you don't like white wine, a red will do the trick. For this, opt for a Pinot Noir-based wine, with a preference for Côtes-de-Nuits wines or a red wine from Beaune.

For a dish featuring mushrooms or truffles, there's nothing like a Côte-de-Nuits Burgundy such as Pommard, Volnay or Gevrey-Chambertin.

For squash dishes, a fairly young dry white will do the trick, such as a Beaune, white Burgundy or Pouilly-Fuissé.

For anything with a chestnut base, whether it's a turkey with chestnuts or a chestnut velouté, go for a red that's structured and tannic enough to stand up to the strong flavor. An Aloxe-Corton, a Chambolle-Musigny or a Blagny will be perfect.
