Some wine ideas for festive meals

During a daydream that the season allows us, I let myself anticipatethe Christmas meal to come and I can't resist the pleasure of sharing the picture with you. It might give you some ideas for food and wine pairings, Burgundy wines of course...

Freshly tested, warmly dressed, the children arrived in the late afternoon. As the sun disappeared behind the vine-braided hillside, their smiles filled the house with light. My husband undid his apron, put down the oyster knife; I took off my glasses, put down my book, and we all gathered in front of the tree. Only the old Irish Setter remained in his basket by the fireplace, but he did stop snoring and sweep the floorboards with his tail.

Once the reunion was over, we naturally sat down around the table. It was the perfect opportunity to discover that our biggest grandchild could finally sit on a chair, without armrests or bibs!

The platter of oysters was placed in the center of the table, and we all gasped when the crémant blanc de blanc was opened!

Once the shellfish had been scooped out (I still had to scrape the feet off those of my son, who will never understand that this is what's best), we moved on to the scallops. While my husband proudly detailed his new way of snacking on them, I opened a bottle of Mercurey Premier Cru. My daughter recognized the bottle and rewarded me with a knowing wink (she, on the other hand, knows what's good).

Twenty-one o'clock struck and the serious business began: the stuffed turkey! The children and the dog watched it arrive with mouths as round as their eyes. Once the smell of stuffing was in their nostrils, the "ooooh!" of admiration gave way to "hmmm!" of impatience! We changed glasses and filled them with Beaune red Premier Cru

Our daughter-in-law has trouble digesting turkey (she's from the city...), so we planned a tournedos with a Rossini, and served her a glass of Nuits-Saint-George just for her. After all, she's the one who gave blue eyes to the latest addition, vintage 2020...

Now that the tummies were tense and the grandparents had discreetly undone the first button on their pants to breathe a little, we got our last battle out of the fridge: the chocolate log. We cut it up, handed it out, all agreed that it was unreasonable in principle, and gobbled it down with a spoon, finishing off our still-half-full glasses...

So here's the Christmas meal as I imagine it. Hopefully, my few ideas will have inspired you... By a happy coincidence that I can't explain, all the wines mentioned are available on our website!
