Volnay, an emblematic territory

The côte de Beaune tour continues!

Our tour of the Côte de Beaune continues, stopping today at Volnay. This region boasts no fewer than 29 Premier Cru climats. The main communes of production are :

  • Volnay for the Volnay appellation
  • Meursault for the Santenots climate

Volnay benefits from a fairly large production area of around 221 hectares, 132 of which are Premier Cru.

Volnay is produced exclusively from red Pinot Noir grapes.

Volnay is a wine known the world over for its bouquet and finesse.

Its color can be recognized among many others as bright ruby, light garnet or purple.

Its aromas are also very deep, with notes of violets, cherries and, as it ages, more spices, cooked prunes and cooked game.

This is a wine that expresses itself in a very complex way on the palate, but which is both delicate and nuanced. It's straightforward on the palate, but at the same time opens up quite early. Initially rather fresh, it gradually becomes warm. Some compare it to a fruit that you crunch in the mouth

For food and wine pairings, its velvety femininity goes perfectly with roast or glazed poultry, as well as game birds.

Cheeses will enhance your wine if they are assertive.

The recommended serving temperature is between 14 and 16 degrees.
