Discover the Route des Grands Crus!
It's a trip that many wine lovers dream of taking: the Route des Grands Crus. A prestigious journey through the Burgundy region, home to some of the greatest names in wine. But such a trip takes planning. Here are a few tips to help you organize your trip and make sure you don't miss a thing.
But first, it's important to look back at the origin and history of the Route des Grands Crus. It's a narrow strip running north-south, no more than 2 kilometers wide. The maximum altitude is
300 to 400 metres. To find out if you're on the right road, just follow the signs with a brown background and a white cluster. There are no fewer than 38 wine-growing villages from Côte de Nuits to Côte de Beaune, via Dijon, Beaune and
Santenay, over
a length of 60 kilometers.
The latter can be done in several parts, the Côte de Nuits itinerary, and the Côte de Beaune itinerary.
- The Côte de Nuits itinerary runs parallel to the D974 road between Dijon and Corgoloin. On this route, you'll find the finest red wines, including 24 Grands Crus such as ChambertinRomanée-Conti, Clos de Vougeot, etc...
- The Côte de Beaune itinerary starts just after Corgoloin and runs all the way to the Maranges hillside. This is where some of the world's greatest dry white wines are produced, including Corton Charlemagne, Meursault and Montrachet.
If you'd like to make the trip in several stages, there are plenty of hotels to accommodate you. In fact, it would be a shame to miss out on one of the traditional festivals organized by winegrowers throughout the year, who are keen to put wine in the spotlight.
You can also cycle this route by taking the Voie des Vignes itinerary from Beaune to Santenay, passing through Pommard, Meursault and Chassagne-Montrachet.
There are also plenty of museums to visit, including the Musée du Vin, the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Beaune and the famous Château du Clos de Vougeot, so don't delay!
During your trip, don't hesitate to visit the
domaine de Chanzyto taste and buy a few bottles of the region's finest wines!
You'll be welcomed with open arms.
