A dozen kilometers south of Dijon, at the foot of the Combe de Laveaux, Gevrey-Chambertin is one of the first winegrowing villages on the Côte. It boasts the entire hierarchy of Burgundy appellations. To the south of the combe, the hillsides bear the seven Grands Crus, to which the name Chambertin is attached - Ruchottes, Mazis, Clos de Bèze, Chapelle, Latricière, Charmes and Chambertin. To the north are the Premier Crus on gravelly soils, while the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation is concentrated on the foothills. From shallow, stony, chalky, reddish-brown soils, Pinot Noir produces sublime accents and concentrated wines. See more

The Gevrey-Chambertin appears square and powerful. A great Burgundy. Its body is firm, sustained, balanced by the accent of its terroir, which is one of the gravelliest on the Côte de Nuits. Most current vinifications, however, tend towards a more spontaneous wine, richer in fruit, less austere, already very pleasant after two or three years.
