Just south of the Côte de Beaune, on the border between Côte-d'Or and Saône-et-Loire, Santenay long divided its ambitions between wine and thermal waters. Today, the village is fully dedicated to Bacchus, forgetting that it was once called Santenay-les-Bains. Only the vagaries of departmental boundaries, set at the time of the French Revolution, have separated Santenay from Maranges. The vineyards, crossed by a gentle river, the Dheune, produce mainly red wines for laying down. "Les Cornières" takes its name from the corm trees that used to grow there. Cormier is the old name for the rowan tree in many regions. The tree bears tiny russet pears with a soft, sweet pulp, known as corms. See more
